Cheapism.com, a blog covering affordable travel, items, and more, ranked the New Haven County town of Guilford as the state’s most overlooked place in its new ranking, “The Most Underrated Town in Every State.”
In order to determine this, the site combed through online reviews and rankings to find places that don't usually get national attention but still have "tremendous value to visitors and locals alike," according to Cheapism.
The over 375-year-old town not only has historical sites galore, but also offers visitors a variety of food to try, shops to visit, and plenty of outdoor and cultural activities.
“Guilford has managed to retain its small-town grit and character,” Cheapsim wrote in its ranking, perhaps because it has one of the largest collections of historic homes in New England, with over 675 buildings predating the year 1911.
Many historic sites are available for visitors and history buffs alike, and they range from farms to taverns to lighthouses and more.
After getting your fill of knowledge for the day, multiple dining options await, such as Naples Restaurant & Pizza, which has four stars on Yelp.
Looking for a sweet treat? Guilford also boasts Blazing Fresh Donuts, a made-to-order doughnut shop voted as the best on the shoreline.
To perfectly round out a trip (or work off dessert), travelers can choose for many hikes or go disc golfing at Bittner Park.
Do you agree that Guilford is the most underrated town in Connecticut? Sound off by voting in the poll above.
